digest your fruits and vegetables

Drink your food and eat your drinks. (No, I have not had one too many beet juices!) Too many times we are in such a rush that we fail to allow our bodies to do what they do naturally. You should have a love affair with food! Food brings people together, has a pull on our emotions, and is life sustaining. When you choose wholesome, organic produce, you really want to get the most from those sources!

Take Your Time and Digest

My friend used to eat like a farmer. Growing up near a rural area, I often saw local farmers having lunch before returning to their fields. They don’t mess around! Big lunch spreads are devoured at an alarming rate in order to return to work. First of all, it takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to send the message to your brain that it is full. This leaves a person vulnerable to overeating. You don’t even know you’re full! Secondly, scarfing down food is just plain unhealthy! At the pace he was eating I’m still not sure my friend even chewed his food. This makes it harder for the digestive system to break down food and absorb all the vital nutrients. When you rush your meals, the first step of the entire digestion process gets overlooked! Chewing your food is the first step that your body takes to digest your food. Certain foods actually start to break down and are absorbed into your blood stream through your mouth with the help of saliva. If you are eating too fast you are not really tasting, enjoying, and chewing your food. You are denying your body the ability to use everything!

Drink Your Food

basically this means chew your food. Take the time to chew it so it takes very little effort to swallow. Pulverize that carrot! Swallow it like juice!

Eat Your Drink

When you drink do you just guzzle down that refreshing beverage? Even if you don’t guzzle when you drink, hold the drink in your mouth and swish it around a little. This activates those digestive juices. You begin to taste flavors you may have been missing!

Food Combinations Matter

Along with helping your body to digest those lovely organic products, you also can receive a larger benefit from smarter food combinations. Starches, for example, begin to break down in the mouth, while proteins wait until they arrive in the stomach to get digested. Eating both at the same time can actually cause stomach upset and give you that gassy bloated feeling. Throw out your meat and potato recipes! (Or just don’t make them a regular occurrence.) Learning ways to combine your food can help you maintain a healthy weight and relieve common digestive ailments. This doesn’t mean you need to keep to a rigorous food diet. But learning the best way for our bodies to eat can make a world of difference.
