Each day, millions of people across the world power up their lawn mowers so that order can be restored to their yards. While it has become the norm to use gas-powered lawn mowers, more people are realizing how harmful these are to the environment. Lawn mower manufacturers have decided to take this matter to task and produce more green lawn mowing devices. These do not rely on conventional methods of power like gas or electricity in order to operate. 1. A Traditional Push Lawn Mower Often left to languish in the back of garden sheds, these mowers were one of the only options for cutting your lawn until a few decades ago. The good news is that push lawn mowers are probably the most eco friendly lawn mowing devices because they require no gas or electricity to operate. An added advantage to using these is that whoever is pushing the mower gets an all-over muscle workout at the same time. 2. Rechargeable Lawn Mowers Relatively new to the gardening scene, these green lawn mowing devices may require electricity to recharge their batteries, but the charge usually lasts long enough to get your lawn cut. For larger properties, additional batteries can be purchased. Battery-powered mowers also have the advantage of being quieter than their gas guzzling counterparts which is an added bonus for those who mow their lawn early on weekends. 3. Solar Powered Lawn Mowers Although these are probably the second most eco friendly lawn mowing option after push mowers, they do take quite a while to charge enough so that they are ready for use. Solar lawn mowers require no electricity to charge and some models have the option of removing the solar panels and placing them in the sun to charge while the mower is not in use. It’s only down side is that it takes three days of sunlight before it is ready to mow your lawn, so purchasing one with detachable panels is definitely a good idea. 4. Robomow Mowers While these mowers are also battery-powered, they do the mowing for you. All you have to do is charge the Robomow and lay out the supplied wire and pegs around your lawn. Once this is done, the Robomow will automatically tour through your yard and cut the lawn without damaging any valuable plants. It has an added feature in that it mulches the cuttings and embeds them in the lawn’s roots, so you also save time by not having to pick them up afterwards. 5. Propane Lawn Mowers These mowers may still rely on fuel to operate, but propane burns far cleaner than gas and these lawn mowers are able to run for longer than gas mowers before they need refueling. Propane is also a lot cheaper than gas. Unfortunately, these mowers are quite a bit noisier and more expensive than their electric counterparts, so you may want to give it some thought before purchasing one. By using one of these eco friendly lawn mowing options, you will not only be doing your bit for the environment, but in most cases, you will be saving money in the long run as well.
