Japanese Zen GardenThe Connection Between How We Think and How We Live

i-GO-ZEN is about taking a way of life and incorporating the needs of daily living into that lifestyle. The philosophy behind iGOZEN is as the name implies – Zen. As alternative trends have taken hold and more people turn to a natural means of self-healing, the principles of Zen have become more common. You may not realize how often the principles of Zen have been mentioned. Science has acknowledged the connection between Zen principles, better brain function, and overall well-being.

But I’m Not a Religious Person

It’s a common mistake to associate the word Zen with a religious doctrine. In fact Zen is all-encompassing and supports living well under any spiritual belief. The Zen principles are simply guidelines to living a life that promotes wellness, both mentally and physically. Taking the time to consider these principles will enhance your daily life and the life of those around you. It’s basically a lesson in mindfulness. Finding a way to become more aware of your impact on your environment is a great way to analyze life in a positive way. We are often pulled from one task to another, perhaps even multitasking. This can make a whole day go by with the focus on tasks rather than wellness. All work and no play will not only make for a very dull person, but a very unhealthy life!

Zen Principles

We have broken down the Zen Principles into easily understood ideals that we live and work by.

  • Have integrity: Do what you say. Say what you mean.
  • Be open-minded and entertain all possibilities: The world is full of infinite possibilities for those who are willing to listen and dream.
  • Do more with less: Continue to challenge yourself on how to make things better.
  • Be authentic: Let your authentic self-guide you from within. Trust that you have the answer in you.
  • Put yourself in other’s shoes: Before you think negatively of others, put yourself in their shoes.
  • Be humble and generous: Just remember you did not become who you are without someone’s help. Be generous with your praise and give credit to others.
  • Be happy and live with no regrets: We only live once so make every moment the best it can be.

In the midst of your yearly resolutions think about applying these simple ideals and bringing a little Zen into your life.
