A person’s body loves when they feed it fresh fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods. This is obvious because it just feels better overall, while studies have shown that the body’s functions improve when nutrients are consumed naturally from healthier foods. However, the body seems to love organic foods even more, and here’s why. Toxic Chemicals are Not Used This is something that’s talked about a lot: The fact that regular produce and processed foods are full of chemicals. Significant amounts of chemical fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, rodenticides and herbicides are sprayed on traditionally grown crops. Although people rinse fresh produce before they eat it, the chemicals are absorbed into the food and can’t be simply washed off. These toxins are harmful to the body, as they can damage and kill cells, as well as cause them to malfunction. Chemicals also cause the kidneys, liver, colon, lungs and skin to work harder, which can lead to malfunctions as well. No Genetic Modifications While it sounds groundbreaking that crops can be genetically altered to taste better, grow faster and be more disease resistant, it’s not necessarily good for the body. By eating crops that have been genetically engineered, people are consuming DNA that hasn’t been introduced to the human body over millions of years in evolution. Since there’s not enough scientific proof that genetically altered foods are totally safe, it’s better just to trust nature. Additionally, research has surfaced to show that genetically engineered crops are rather dangerous. Food manufacturers aren’t required to tell consumers that their products are genetically altered in some way either, making organic foods the safest option. Irradiation is Not Used Everyone knows that x-ray machines are dangerous due to the radiation they emit. Traditionally grown crops go through a process of irradiation, which shoots them with 150 million times the radiation as an x-ray machine. The goal is to kill pathogens, but the process can’t kill all of them. At the same time, the good qualities and nutrients in the food are killed as well. The process also changes the molecules in food and can turn the chemical structure into carcinogenic and mutagenic compounds, which support the growth of cancerous cells. Organic crops aren’t put through this process, ensuring that they are all natural and full of nutrients. Increase in Nutrients As slightly mentioned already, organic foods provide more nutrients than traditionally grown foods because the irradiation process isn’t used. Another reason for this, however, is the fact that farmers deplete the soil in which the crops are grown. Without nutritional soil to grow in, crops can’t grow as healthy as possible and have lower quantities of nutrients. Farmers who grow organic foods use crop rotation and other methods to replenish the soil, keeping it full of nutrients that their crops can absorb. Organic foods help the body function better, as they lack harmful toxins, aren’t genetically altered and are full of nutrients. It’s clear that eating organic foods is healthier because of these factors, so there’s no reason why the body wouldn’t love them more.
