Simply Balanced Target Brand In line with recognizing the potential for increased sales, Target has announced that it is planning to introduce a new natural and organic store brand to their customers. While their new Simply Balanced brand would start small with items such as snack and drink items, it would eventually grow to include approximately 250 items within the first few months of its launch.

Supermarkets Focusing More on Customer Requirements

The new line of natural and organic foods is being released in response to more and more customers requiring organic food options that are affordable. While these items currently only make up around 10% of grocery sales, the senior director of Target’s store brands has stated that the sales of natural foods are increasing almost twice as much as those of conventional foods. In fact, the company plans to announce shortly that its selection of organic foods will be increased by as much as 25% by 2017.

Making an Effort to Improve the Image of Store Brands

Affordability means that more customers are choosing to purchase store brands today. As a result, customers as well as retailers enjoy the benefit of this because the retailers experience larger profit margins while the customers enjoy larger savings on store brands. Unlike years gone by, some stores now offer various forms of store brands including a budget line and a premium line. However, both of these usually retail at lower prices than traditionally branded items. These days, many of the store brands are of equivalent quality to or even better than some of their branded counterparts.

Working Towards Completely Organic

Currently, around half the items planned for the Simply Balanced line will be completely organic and close to 75% of them do not contain any form of genetically modified ingredients. Target has stated though, that they will ensure that all GMO ingredients are eliminated from this premium range by the end of 2014. This will offer customers a little more peace of mind in knowing that they are consuming foods which were once recognized and consumed by their grandparents instead of items that have been created in a laboratory.

Benefits of Organic Foods and Crops

Customers who choose to consume organic foods will enjoy foods that are far tastier and healthier than those grown conventionally. While these foods may not always look as perfect on the outside as genetically modified alternatives, the inside of them contains vitamins, minerals and nutrients which are vital to keep the body healthy. These foods also require fewer pesticides and herbicides in order to grow which means that the soil they are grown is not destroyed by chemicals. This means that future generations will still be able to plant and cultivate healthy food. At present, there may only be one or two retailers that are committing to providing healthier choices for their customers, but once the competition sees the increased sales as a result, they may very well decide to follow suit and provide organic brands of their own.
