More than 3,600 pets have become sick off of contaminated or poisoned pet food and treats. Nearly 600 pets have also died from this lack of regulation. While pet owners demand action from the FDA to remedy these tragedies and prevent future ones from occurring, many feel safer turning toward natural and organic formulas that promise better regulation and safety for their pets.

Trusted brands of pet food that people have used for years are now producing alternative organic choices for their customers. From Hill’s Science Diet to Nestle Purina’s Purina One Beyond, large companies are catering to the organic demands of the pet owner market, providing more nutritious, natural food from sustainable sources. Environmentally-friendly packaging is also frequently employed in these brands. Even the superstore Walmart has designed a line of premium pet food made without artificial preservatives, coloring agents, corn or wheat additives, or meat by-products. Many pet owners feel that these choices are much safer for their companion animals.
Exciting Flavors and Features
In addition to safety, some find that there are other benefits to be had from organic food options. Lethargic and elderly pets may eat better when provided with more flavors and choices. Some owners report better pet health and traits, from more energy to a shinier coat, due to the lack of added fillers and preservatives in the organic foods that they purchase. The open labeling on organic foods also provides pet owners reassurance that they aren’t feeding their animals horse, whale, or other meats that they do not support. Refrigerated pet foods appear to be fresher and perhaps healthier for pets.
The benefits of organic food for pets continue to be measured. As long as pet owners notice a difference in their pets’ health, however, the cost of this food seems to be worth it.
